PH+ Cubing

Witty cubing-themed shirts and more for speed-cubers and those who love them: an online shop started by a mom and two kids.

Here’s how Ph+Cubing started:

Our older son Owen got interested in speedcubing and then his little brother Dash got into it and they egged each other on to get better and better. They even worked well together! We went to a few World Cubing Association speedcubing competitions and they both got to under 30 seconds quickly on the standard 3x3 Rubik’s Cube. We immediately adored the cubing community because it is inclusive and everyone is welcome to let their freak flags fly. No judgement. More than one parent asked me: is your son autistic, too? The answer is not diagnosed, but aren’t we all on the spectrum a bit?

Our family enjoys word games and making silly jokes. Owen came up with the idea to put a pattern algorithm on a T-shirt because he thought it would look cool. This is how PH+Cubing started in 2023. The P and H are just our last name initials and the + is a nod to science and the fact that we are not neutral, but we are very positive about being fans of cubing.

How it’s going:

Life sometimes throws you curveballs and you have to pivot. Our son Owen passed away suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition in 2024 and we stepped away from…everything for a while. When we finally came back to our t-shirt shop, we realized that Owen had prepped the whole alphabet for us on a 7x7 cube (those are photos, not computer generated) and we’d made all of his designs happen. Working off those, we have a few more designs in the works and we’ll get those uploaded as soon as possible.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that life is short. We need to love one another and support one another. We fight against bullies and lift up the art and voices of the creative people who surround us.
